It all started as I was cooking breakfast. While the sausage was sizzling, I glanced out the kitchen window and saw two squirrels chasing each other. Suddenly, they both stood up on their hind legs and faced each other.
That’s all it took- my brain went into overdrive and in about 10 minutes I had developed a full-length cartoon in my head. I had dialogue developed- “Hi-ya!” and “Waaaaah!” were some of the more common phrases, martial arts costumes (with capes of course, because duh, they are superheroes) and even a theme song, “Da da da duhhhhhh…..Ninja Squirrels are on the run!”
So, besides the fact that you’re now convinced I’ve totally lost my marbles, what could this sudden departure from reality possibly mean?
Like most, I work too hard and seldom give myself any time off (the self-employed fall especially victim to this, because, well, that IS self-employment). I tend to also take myself too seriously at times, so I think the appearance of “Ninja Squirrels” is my brain telling me to lighten up. “Go on Carrie, take a break, have some fun, don’t be so serious all the time.” And it’s good advice.
Taking a break makes you more relaxed, more fun to be around and a better person overall. And really, in our high stress, fast-paced society, don’t we all need that? Don’t we all need a little zaniness to keep us young and enjoying life? How do you release your inner Ninja Squirrel? Go on, let loose- you’ve got my permission 🙂
And if I see you, let’s greet each with a Ninja Squirrel welcome. I guarantee we’ll share some good laughs.
