I received the biggest compliment of my professional life several months ago and it still blows me away. My friend Brenda Moots and I were having a discussion and the subject of insurance was brought up (imagine that). She said to me, “Carrie- if I had to give a referral to someone looking for insurance, I would pull out your card every time.” Wow. This from a person who isn’t even my customer. She actually has her insurance at a different agency!
This is also the same person who became my friend on Facebook, started following me on Twitter and “fanned” Alan Galvez Insurance- all before actually meeting me or stepping foot in my office. She developed her own conclusions about me & my business by seeing what content I shared, what comments I posted and how others were responding to me.
Since last spring, I have witnessed an amazing dynamic build in my local community- business owners who actually lift each other up by becoming avid supporters of each other’s businesses. It started when I dipped my toe into the social media scene, and connected with many people online. I then began going to the Logan County Networking Meetup, a monthly networking group organized by my good friends Carly and Dennis Schaub. At the Meetup I was able to connect names with faces and make deeper connections with people. We also discussed ways we could help each other.
I have been a faithful attendee of the Meetups and still continue to make new connections. I also continue to enjoy those that have been with me on the journey for a bit longer. I have formed very close relationships with many business owners. We are friends above all else and believe in each other.
Perhaps my situation is the exception to the rule, but what I know is this: when small business owners work so hard to support each other, it can only have positive results for the community as a whole. When we are each other’s cheerleaders, we all succeed. When we don’t help each other, we all fail.
So, from the bottom of my heart- THANK YOU to the friends I have made in the past 9 months. I am very lucky to surround myself with such caring, giving people. You are important and valuable people to me. I am, and will continue to be your biggest fan.
If you are interested in attending one of the Logan Couty Networking Meetup sessions (or perhaps want to get ideas for starting your own), please visit the website at http://www.meetup.com/Logan-County-Networking-Meetup/. Our support of each other has a vibe, an energy, a life of its own- all positive. It’s pretty “fricking” awesome. It’s totally changed our community, for the better.
I welcome comments and questions. Thanks for reading.
