About

Hi!  I’m Carrie Reynolds. I’m glad you’re here.20150318_8789

I help individuals and small businesses discover and create their brand and share the story of that brand through digital marketing- specifically blogging and social media.

I have plenty of real-world experience with branding, namely the creation of my own brand The Insurance Goddess, a character I created to show that insurance can be personable, human and fun. You can read about her creation, as well as the many uses of the character throughout the insurance industry and local community.

My Marketing, Blogging and Social Media Background

I started in the insurance business in 1996 and am now co-owner of my family-owned agency, Alan Galvez Insurance. Insurance marketing is my specialty for sure, but much of what I write and speak about can be applied to many different types of industries, including the so-called “boring” ones. Let’s face it- if I can create a brand with insurance as its focus and one that people actually ENJOY, there’s hope for many businesses.

Everything I write and speak about has some connection to my own experiences at the agency. No theory, just real-world application. As a business owner, I don’t need theory, I need to know how what you say can be applied to my own business. I’m sure you’re not different.

And as a business owner, I’m an avid believer in using social media to market your business, create relationships with others and help solve problems.

It all started with a blog

In 2009, I enrolled in an Introduction to Social Media class at a local school. And to say it was a watershed moment, is putting it VERY lightly. Social media was simply an extension of what insurance agents did in real-life interactions- connect, communicate and build relationships.

The instructor wisely said to start with one platform and get comfortable- I decided blogging was a perfect fit. I’ve always loved words and communicating through the writing. My topic of choice? Insurance naturally. Of course, NO ONE wants to read an insurance blog, so I decided I needed to call it something memorable and fun to entice people to read it. So I called it “Confessions of an Insurance Goddess and it launched in springtime 2009.

I had no clue what I was doing at the time, and when I go back and read some of the early posts, I cringe. But I just knew deep down that there was something to this blogging thing and I needed to push on. Practice makes perfect right?

After a while, I began to gain traction- I had people signing up to get new posts, I got comments, emails and phone calls. People connected with me on social media. People were actually excited to read what I was writing about (insurance of all things!) and found tremendous value in my posts. They learned helpful information, and got answers to their questions about an often confusing and hard to explain topic.

Most of all, they appreciated my honesty, ability to talk at their level (and not a bunch of technical terms) and my sense of humor. My “voice”, if you will.

And yes, to answer the insurance folks reading this, I HAVE written many insurance policies as a result of my blogging and social media activities.

From writing about insurance to writing about marketing

I’ve shifted from using the blog as a place to write about insurance, to writing about marketing in all its forms (note: you can still find hundreds of articles about insurance here- I didn’t get rid of them). I talk about trends, observations and creation and implementation of marketing, often using my own agency as a case study. Note: you can find lots of articles about insurance on our agency blog. I encourage you to visit and check it out. You can also sign up to get new articles by email too.
